On the 12^th of April 2026, Bollywood and all music lovers around the world mourned another loss of a truly great legend, “Asha Bhosle”, acknowledged in the “Guinness Book of World Records” as the most recorded artist in music history.

1953 – 2 songs – Alif Laila
1953 – 5 songs – Laila Majnu
1956 – 1 song  – Naya Andaz
1957 – 7 songs – Bada Bhai
1959 – 2 songs – Kal Hamara Hai

I had always associated her voice with the dance sequences in my dad’s films, but a few things surprised me as I went through her songs in the above-mentioned movies – she also sang many serious, sad and devotional songs for top actresses like Nutan, Kamini Kaushal, and Madhubala. She was indeed a very versatile singer.

In Laila Majnu, one of the most famous songs — “Aasman Wale Teri Duniya Se Ji Ghabra Gaya” — was sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle’s older sister. Because of that, I had assumed the other songs were also sung by Lata M.

To my surprise, all the remaining five hit songs were actually sung by Asha Bhosle.
In her early years, before she developed her own playful and mischievous style, her voice often resembled Lata M.’s, which explains my assumption.

Another interesting realization — (but I could be mistaken) — is that since Helen’s first solo dance was in my dad’s 1953 film “Alif Laila” and the song “Raatein Pyaar Ki Beet Jaayengi”, picturized on Helen, was sung by Asha Bhosle – Could this have been the first of the many iconic “item songs” Asha Bhosle later sang for Helen??
And was this also the very first song she recorded for a K. Amarnath Production?
Well, these are insignificant details anyway !!

Asha Bhosle will be Surely Missed but her Songs will Live on Forever !!
