Lata Mangeshkar Songs from Movies Produced/Directed by K.Amarnath

February 6, 2022 – It is a sad day in India today and a sad day for all Hindi Music lovers.

We have lost a great legend, Lata Mangeshkar, the “Nightingale of India”.

She will always be remembered for her most iconic patriotic song, “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo” that is said to have brought tears to the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru in 1963.

Lata started singing in 1942 when she was just 13 years old. In her lifetime, she sang over seven thousand songs in 20 different Indian languages.

From 1949 to 1971, Lata Mangeshkar sang in 14 of my dad, K.Amarnath’s movies.

Lata Mangeshkar’s solo, “Sajan ki Galiyan Chhod Chale” from “Bazar” 1949 – was listed by her as one of her top songs at that time. Lata was the first Indian to perform in Royal Albert Hall, London and I believe this song from “Bazar” was the first ever Hindi song sung in Royal Albert Hall.

I remember meeting Lata Mangeshkar briefly in 1955 when my father had taken us to the recording of one of her songs from his movie, “Bara-Dari”. I still remember her smile when he introduced the four of us siblings to her. There was a twinkle in her eyes as she bent down to look at us closely, tilting her head to the right, hands folded as she greeted us with a “namaste”.
